Thank you for the warm welcome at the APPA Business Partners’ breakfast last week. It was heartening to see colleagues and friends from the North Shore Principals and the New Zealand Pasifika Principals Associations there. You all know how important it is to have the support of your colleagues and friends when you take on extra roles.

The APPA Executive; Kevin Bush, Steve King, Heath McNeil and Craig Holt are already working in a range of areas to ensure Auckland’s voice has strength in Education. We attended the  NZPF Moot in Wellington and were buoyed by the positive energy from Minister Hipkins and Associate Ministers Martin and Davis. The Government’s desire to work with the Sector was clear in the Minister’s address. He spoke of the Review of Education Summits this year. One is scheduled for May 12th and 13th in Auckland where Principals, Teachers, Parents, Students and the wider Community can be nominated to attend and will have opportunities to get their views across and guide the future of Education in New Zealand.

I’d like to thank Deidre Alderson who mentored the Executive last year. I learnt a great deal about how to ensure our voices are heard when talking to Ministers and know that Deidre will continue to support Auckland’s needs in a range of areas through her work in NZPF and within our Association.
