Auckland Libraries Kia Māia te Whai- Dare to Explore summer reading programme is a great way to keep 5-12-year olds busy over the summer holidays. The programme encourages children to develop their love of reading and language.
With up to 60 fun challenges to suit different interests, there’s no chance of school holiday boredom and they can even create challenges of their own. As a bonus, the activities can be completed at the library, online on holiday or at home.
Last four years our customer surveys and research has consistently shown that Auckland Libraries flagship summer reading programme Kia Maia te Whai Dare to Explore is achieving its following objectives:
- children have fun, enjoy the programme, find it easy and flexible
- children increase their love of books, reading and the library
- children maintain and improve their reading ability and are comfortable and confident library users
- children and their families want to continue their relationship with the library beyond the programme and recommend libraries to others.
Registrations for Kia Maia te Whai- Dare to Explore open on 26th November and the programme kicks off from 10th December when children can pick up a bilingual or Te Reo Māori activity booklet at their local library.
