Treasurer’s Report – Steve King
A financial review has been commenced – income has reduced for the Association. Encourage all schools to financial review especially Decile 8-10 schools due to the impact on locally raised funds.
Currently showing a surplus of $45 000 and $750 000 in Net Assets.
88% of principal subscriptions have been received so far.
54% of Business Partner payments have been received
Business Partners – Kevin reached out to them to ease pressure during the Level 4 Lockdown re: payments.

Presidents’ Report – Stephen Lethbridge
Thanks to the Executive for their work during the COVID-19. Recognition from the Ministry of Education for the work of all principals during the last three months. Executive met with the Ministry throughout the Lockdown – in particular with Isabel Evans (Auckland) and Katrina Casey (Wellington). Also have been talking with the media around extensions or changes of school drop-offs.

Constitution Update – Steve King
There were 153 responses to the survey. All aspects of the changes had over 90% support.
The changes will now go back to our solicitor.
It was raised about Māori representation on the Executive. To have a position as of right – under the Te Tiriti o Waitangi / Treaty of Waitangi obligations. The Executive will raise this at their next meeting and report back to the Council for further discussion.
APPA Conference – Steve King
Dates are confirmed as Oct 21-23 Wed – Fri at Taupō Hilton. It is the week before Labour Weekend. The conference committee is currently finalising the programme and registrations. Unfortunately, the Association will not be in Not in a position to offer financial support through PD grants this year. Initially, registrations will be open to principals.
QED – Heath McNeil
Representatives from MOE, NZEI, NZPF, ERO, NZSTA, ASSPA took part in a Zoom meeting in May.
Existing property and SIP funding projects being approved and underway. Additional Property staff taken on in MOE to help get these projects moving.
All Ministry budgets and funding streams to be looked at again due to COVID.
Learning Support, the well-being initiative free to schools to help cope with anxiety launched. We would encourage all schools to avail themselves of these types of opportunities and make them work in their school context.
ERO are currently having low key conversations with schools around learning from learning during Lockdown. No timeline for regular onsite school reviews at this stage. They are also reviewing their review methodology and how reviews will be conducted in the future, with an improvement focus.
Travelling Fellowship – Heath McNeil
Awards on hold due to travel restrictions. Two current fellowships will carry over into the following year. Four applicants for this 2021 fellowships are on-hold until more clarity from Ministry about their ability to support up to four fellowships in 2021.

Alumni Report – Gary Moss
Bob Baird passed away peacefully on June 2nd after a short time in hospital. He was in his 86th year. Bob’s last position before retirement was Principal of Torbay. Throughout his career he was an active member of NZEI and was a Past National President of the Institute. On retiring he became an active member of REGAL (an off-shoot of NZEI for retirees) and along with Judy, who passed away last year, he was a key person in the Old A’s Group (graduates from Auckland Teachers’ College). Bob was highly respected by his many friends and colleagues and APPA Alumni extend their condolences to his family.
