Languages Speech Competition 2020

Farm Cove Intermediate has offered to host the APPA Year 7 and 8 Korean Speech Competition and the APPA Year 7 and 8 Mandarin Speech Competition.  The competitions will be held in Week 5 of Term 3.

  • APPA Year 7 and 8 Korean Speech Competition – Monday 17 August at 11.00 am
  • APPA Year 7 and 8 Mandarin Speech Competition – Wednesday 19 August at 11.00 am

Only one student per competition may represent your school.

If you would like to enter a student to compete in one or both of the competitions, please email the student’s name, school name, selected competition (Korean or Mandarin) and speech title to by Friday 14 August. Alternatively, complete the registration form below and I will confirm your entry via email.

The 3 minute Auckland Afrikaans APPA speech finals will be at Reremoana School Hall, Wattle Downs on Friday 30 October 2020 between 9:30am and 11:30am.

Each school may register two speakers in each category. There will be a first, second and third place for each category (Years 5/6 and Years 7/8). This competition is for students in Central, East and South Auckland only as the North Shore has a different competition.
There will be a short 5 minute break between the categories. The winners of both categories will be announced after everyone has spoken.

Please arrive by 9:15am as the competition will start on the dot of 9:30am. It is important all contestants and any supporting guests are seated by 9:30am.


All speaker names and the title of their speech in English AND in Afrikaans need to be on the APPA Afrikaans Competition Google sheet by Monday 26 October 2020 so the programme can be prepared and the speaking order drawn before the programme is compiled. Please also indicate school contact.

A reminder: no microphones to be used, speakers must be able to clearly project their voice to the rear of the hall. No props are allowed.
Please refer to the document attached below for judging criteria. There is no prescribed topic or theme however the speech needs to be of a persuasive nature.
